Diversification quickly becomes dilution. Own 40 individual stocks and your best ideas barely matter—and there’s no way you’re researching all 40. More than a decade as an analyst, I’d rather know 10 to 15 companies extremely well, then use ETFs for broader diversification.
Two rules to investing! First, know exactly why you own every stock. If you can’t explain it in one sentence, don’t own it!
Second, set a limit! Keep your portfolio to 10 – 15 stocks, only buying the very best!
