Tesla will come to India early next year says the country’s transport minister Nitin Gadkari. The electric-car maker will start with sales and then possibly look at assembly & manufacturing there based on the response of consumers. India has been looking to reduce its oil dependence & cut down on pollution, but efforts to promote electric vehicles have been dented by a lack of investment in the sector.
Bitcoin early Wednesday jumped to a record $28,599.99, after the digital currency nearly quadrupled in value in 2020 amid heightened interest from bigger investors. It has surged by nearly half since breaking $20K for the first time on Dec. 16. Bitcoin has increasingly seen demand from larger U.S. investors in particular, attracted by its perceived inflation-hedging qualities & expectations it will become a mainstream payments method.
A team of researchers affiliated with several institutions in the U.K. & 1 in Saudi Arabia has developed a way to produce jet fuel using carbon dioxide as a main ingredient. In their paper published in the journal Nature Communications, the group has described their process & its efficiency. Transportation-related carbon dioxide for the aviation industry, is at present about 12% of the total emitted.
Nigeria is the number one country in Africa in the IMF 2020 World Economic Outlook’s ratings of countries. Using countries’ GDPs, IMF ranked Nigeria among the 1st 26 countries in the world in the same position with an average $442,976M. Countries are sorted by nominal GDP estimates from financial and statistical institutions.
In currency markets, the U.S. dollar’s weakness continued. It dropped again Wednesday, the 1st day where settlement of trades will be in 2021. The U.S. dollar index fell -0.3% to its lowest since April 2018, as the Euro reached its highest since April 2018, at close to $1.23.
The solar system’s two biggest planets, Jupiter & Saturn, came within 400 million miles in Monday’s evening sky, a closeness that will not occur again until 2080. The great conjunction, occurred on the winter solstice for those in the Northern Hemisphere & the beginning of summer in the global south.
The number of 1st-time claims for unemployment benefits fell in US; The API reported a draw down in crude oil inventories; Some people refuse to receive the vaccine against covid-19; BMW will produce many more electric cars between 2021 and 2023.
